About the book
Ingrid Waverly is a young woman to be reckoned with. Faced with her brother's mysterious disappearance after an abrupt move to Paris, she is determined to discover what has happened to him. Soon she and her sister Gabriella are drawn into a Parisian underworld more terrifying than they could ever have imagined, but watching over them are two impossible (and impossibly handsome) young men. Luc is a 'Dispossessed', an ancient gargoyle whose sworn duty it is to protect the humans who inhabit his abbey. Nolan has secrets of his own too. He is a member of the Alliance - a shadowy group dedicated to keeping Paris safe from the demonic forces that threaten to destroy it.
Secrets, danger and hidden powers stalk the girls in this beautifully imagined paranormal romance that will keep readers gripped from beginning to end - and one thing is for sure - you'll never look at a gargoyle in the same way again...
"I'll tell you how I know of the bite, but only if you promise me two things," he said.
"It depends on what the two things are." She was far too prudent to blindly jump into a promise.
Luc stepped toward her. She felt heat radiating from his body. "Don't scream."
Her pulse skipped. Would she have a reason to?
Luc's glare softened. "And don't run away." He licked his lips, and for the first time Ingrid saw a trace of vulnerability. "Don't run away from me."
Ingrid puzzled over his conditions. Not to scream, not to run away from him. These things should have frightened her, and they did. Partly. But Ingrid was too curious to do anything other than nod. Luc moved backward and left the circle of flickering candlelight.
"Where are you going?" Ingrid asked, panicked as her brother's voice once again phantomed through the abbey.
"Ignore it. Stay where you are," Luc quickly said.
Ingrid's bare feet throbbed as she stood on a square of tile. The dull ache of the cold seeped up her ankles and through her bones. She had to get warm.
"Would you please just tell me what you're doing? I'm freezing," she said, impatient for the rectory, for her slippers, a fire, and a heavy blanket.
Luc didn't answer. Instead, something crept forward into the ever-changing light of the prayer candles. Ingrid's throat dammed up as the obsidian-winged gargoyle-her gargoyle-edged into the space Luc had just abandoned.
